From recycling to sustainable energy, we pride ourselves on being an eco-friendly furniture company. At Raymour & Flanigan, we believe it’s our responsibility to take care of the environment and the communities where we work and live. That’s why we invest in recycling, energy-efficient lighting, sustainable energy and more, all to make our planet a little greener.
After we deliver furniture or a mattress, we bring all of the packaging materials back to one of our private recycling facilities. Once there, we turn cardboard, Styrofoam® and plastic into raw materials that can be repurposed into useful items like books, toys and picture frames.
Since the construction of our first recycling center in 2002, we’ve diverted over 200 million pounds of packaging materials from landfills. We also recycle water bottles and office paper (including faxes, catalogs, letters, etc.) from all of our showrooms, service centers and support centers. See how these efforts add up by watching our recycling video above.
Our New York stores use Green-e certified RECs (renewal energy credits) generated at wind facilities across the US, an effort that avoids the emission of over 800 tons of greenhouse gases. In addition, we are continuously installing/upgrading to HVAC energy-efficient systems as we continue to decrease our energy use.
We are also in the process of replacing our lighting with energy-efficient LED fixtures. The new lights will require 45% less wattage than the existing fixtures, and they’re safer for the environment than fluorescent bulbs. Our goal is to update all of our showrooms and distribution centers with this newer technology.
