How to Host a Spring Celebration in 5 Easy Steps
Spring has sprung! Flowers are blooming, grass is growing, and get-togethers with family and friends are on the horizon. Whether you’re hosting Mother’s Day brunch, Easter dinner, or Passover Seder, we can help you create a memorable gathering.

1: Welcome guests to a fresh and festive space
Set out fresh flowers and plants to add color and life. Consider a pastel palette that gives a hint of the outdoors inside. Add a floral centerpiece, hang a vibrant wreath on the door, or place vases of flowers around your home.

2: Set and style the table
Sharing a special meal is central to celebrating springtime holidays; make sure your table seats guests comfortably. (Our sizing guide can help!) Whether you’re hosting brunch or traditional dinner, this can be the time to create a festive place for the food. Create a tablescape by setting out plates, napkins, a tablecloth or runner, and a centerpiece. Use different patterns and textures to elevate the look. Get the kids involved by having them make place cards out of index cards. Put out crayons and let them color, customize, and fold their masterpieces.

3: Make space to munch and mingle
The kitchen is the hub of the home, but guests gravitate toward the dining room and living room, too. For more casual gatherings, flow is important. You want guests to have enough room to chat before and after a meal. In addition to a buffet or credenza, use other furniture pieces as food and beverage stations for drinks and dessert. An ottoman, cocktail table, or end table can do double duty in this regard.

4: Create memories
Holiday memories can be made after the meal as well — think holiday-related games or a new tradition of a post-meal walk around the neighborhood. If it’s too cold outside for an Easter egg hunt, for example, have it inside. Or, have guests guess the number of jellybeans in a container. The winner gets the jar.

5: Embrace the outdoors
If it’s a sunny, warm day, you can move or extend the celebration outside. (Check out our outdoor decorating guide for tips on creating your ideal outdoor space.) Even if the weather is less than ideal, you can still open a patio door and let in fresh air. If it’s chilly, a fire pit in your outdoor space creates cozy warmth. Don’t forget to add a bright and cheerful rug to contain any dirt or mud from getting tracked inside.

Send your guests home with a little treat. This can be as small and simple as a single cookie wrapped in cellophane with a pretty ribbon. Add a homemade hang tag with a thank you poem or cherished family recipe for a dish that was served that day.
