Decorating With Lime Green

Split Complementary

Split Complementary

Harmonious and interesting, split-complementary colors will give your room just enough contrast. To find the split complement of lime green, look to the left and right of its complement, fuchsia (purple-red). In the case of lime green, the split-complementary scheme would include purple and red.

In this split-complementary living room, red and purple are introduced to lime green for a color scheme that's totally chic yet still approachable and inviting. To recreate this look, start with a muted yellow-green color on your walls. Using a brighter green may overwhelm the other tones in the room or, even worse, make your room look like a traffic light!

For your furniture, opting for a burgundy leather set is the perfect way to work in that split-complementary color scheme. When you're ready to add that touch of violet, remember to use it sparingly. Too much red-based color will make your room feel heavy. Instead, sprinkle violet throughout your space in the form of floral arrangements, accent pillows or even small decorative accents, like candles.

And because a split-complementary scheme is saturated with different colors, using whites and neutrals for balance is as important as ever. In this room, white and neutral hues were chosen for accent pillows, lamps, throws and even wall molding. And as a bonus, the area rug features a neutral base while also incorporating some hints of burgundy.
